Stock Running for U. S. House

"What would you do with your own 160 acres of land?" is the question Libertarian candidate for U.S. House, Lewis Stock, is asking. A Douglas, Wyoming native and property rights advocate, Stock's main issue in the U.S. House race will be the returning of federal lands to the people — literally. Stock's proposal, the homestead acts revisited, is that the federal government give 160 acres of federal land to any man or woman that wants it to do with as they see fit. Stock says that with people acting as stewards of their own land, they would have much more of an incentive to take care of that land, and determine a beneficial use of that land. Individuals would be making decisions for the land rather than federal agencies.

Stock said the land giveaways might have to be done through a lottery system, but in any event, the federal government needs to stop exhibiting heavy-handed land baron traits towards it's own citizens.

The economic development potential alone would be limitless for Wyoming.

Individual citizens would have the opportunity to start their own home sites, recreational camps, private wilderness areas, hobby farms, cottage industries, or whatever else a person might have as their own personal "American Dream."

The Libertarian Party believes in minimal government control over its citizens, emphasizes personal responsibility along with individual freedom, having individuals manage their own affairs, and not imposing their will on others.
